|  David Heikkinen, a native of the Pacific Northwest, has performed coast-to-coast collaborating with many talented musicians and ensembles from Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin, Alabama, and Massachusetts. Mr. Heikkinen`s versitility ranges in styles from jazz, to classical, to contemporary, that is followed by a strong dedication to the peformance of new music. As an avid supporter of new music, he has performed the works by today`s most talented composers, including Magnus Lindberg, Marti Epstein, Dalit Warshaw, Eric Mandat, Shulamit Ran, Rudolf Rojahn, Elliot Carter, Kenji Bunch and by the former Chicago Symphony resident composer Augusta Read Thomas, whom he was honored in giving Diagonals its Boston Premiere. In 2004, Mr. Heikkinen was a guest artist in the Xi’an International Clarinet and Saxophone Festival in Xi’an, China, concluding with a tour of performances to the cities of Bejing, Shanghai, and Xing Dao. He has also been seen touring venues in Australia, Spain, New Zealand, Canada, and most recently South America where he has already excited audiences.
As a soloist, Mr. Heikkinen has offered listeners with remarkable concerts in collaboration with the Portland Youth Philharmonic, the Portland State University Wind Ensemble, and the Boston Conservatory Wind Ensemble. These performances have included Aaron Copland’s Concerto for clarinet, harp and strings and Victor Babin’s Hillindale Waltzes for clarinet and wind ensemble.
During his orchestral career, David Heikkinen has performed regularly with the Green Bay Symphony of Wisconsin and with several summer opera festivals around Oregon, including the Bel Canto Music Festival and the Astoria Music Festival under the baton of Grammy nominated conductor Keith Clark. Currently, Mr. Heikkinen serves as principal of the UniNorte Orchestra, known as the leading professional orchestra of Paraguay, and serves as a member of the Ludovico Ensemble. During his time in Asunción, Paraguay, he will also serve as instructor with Don Bosco Roga, a music conservatory for underprivileged youth.
